The boom in contactless paying at the cash register since the beginning of Corona pandemic.In the three months from February to April, 9 out of 10 (85 percent) of German citizens: Inside, contactless with a map, smartphone or smartwatch in the shop.At the end of last year, the proportion was still 79 percent.That is the result of a representative survey of 1.004 people in Germany from the age of 16 on behalf of the digital association Bitkom.
Almost a quarter (23 percent) pays contactless daily or several times a day (from September to November 2020: 18 percent).A little more use contactless payment options several times a week (26 percent, 2020: 28 percent) or at least once a week (27 percent, 2020: 20 percent).38 percent have reached the smartphone or smartwatch at the cash register in the past three months.7 percent even pay daily or several times a day, another 5 percent several times a week, 7 percent at least once a week.Around a fifth (19 percent) uses smartphones or smartwatch at the cash register less often.
Around a third (32 percent) indicates that you have tried contactless payment in Corona pandemic for the first time, 10 percent paid for the first time with a smartphone or smartwatch.One reason for this: more than half (55 percent) feels the contactless payment of hygienic.For this reason, two thirds (69 percent) use rare cash in pandemic than before.And 59 percent are certain that even without cash, even after corona pandemic.6 out of 10 respondents (60 percent) also state that it bothers you if you cannot pay cashlessly with a card, smartphone or smartwatch.A majority of 57 percent therefore demand that all business should be legally obliged to offer at least one electronic payment option in addition to cash payments.Rohleder:
