Most cinemas don't open again until July 1st. The UCI chain, for example, will open its doors again from June 17th. We present here which new films will then be available to the operators.
The Mauritanian (06/10): Drama about the young Mauritanian Mohamedou Ould Slahi, who is detained and tortured in Guantanamo after the September 11 attacks. The entertaining and gripping political thriller thrives on its cast. Jodie Foster ("The Silence of the Lambs") shines as a tough lawyer whose hard-nosed appearance is the facade for a soft heart. Tahar Rahim ("The Snake") and Benedict Cumberbatch ("Doctor Strange") are also convincing. Only Shailene Woodley ("Destiny is a lousy traitor") as Foster's lawyer colleague seems a bit underwhelmed. Director Kevin Macdonald ("The Last King of Scotland") has staged the true story that Mohamedou Ould Slahi wrote in his "Guantanamo Diary" in 2015 without frills.
Chaos Walking (06/17): The film adaptation of the novel "New World: The Escape" (the first book in a trilogy) focuses on the young Todd (Tom Holland), who lives in the year 2257 on the planet New World in the settlement of Prentisstown . All the women were killed by the planet's natives. The remaining men, led by Mayor Prentiss (Mads Mikkelsen), have since been able to hear everyone's thoughts through the strange power "Noise". Everything changes for Todd when Viola (Daisy Ridley) crashes her spaceship on New World. A half-baked dystopian thriller.
Kings of Hollywood (06/24): Hollywood producer Max Barber (Robert De Niro) is in a tight spot: After his action flick "Killer Nuns" flopped, his financier, gang boss Reggie Fontaine (Morgan Freeman), put a gun on him Breast. By chance, Max comes up with a brilliant idea: he will take out a large insurance sum for the main actor of his next film, the worn-out western hero Duke Montana (Tommy Lee Jones), and ensure that he dies in a dangerous stunt. "Kings of Hollywood" doesn't ignite any screwball fireworks, but you can tell that Hollywood's veterans had a lot of fun filming. And that also carries over to the viewer.
A Quiet Place 2 (06/24): With "A Quiet Place" director and leading actor John Krasinski ("Jack Ryan") achieved a surprising box office success in 2018. The horror thriller convinced with a fresh concept, fast pace and nasty monsters. They usually reacted fatally to every little noise and forced the protagonists to be as quiet as a mouse. Accordingly, there was little dialogue to be heard in the film. A trick that made it almost impossible to rustle loudly while eating popcorn in the cinema. Since such an idea can hardly be repeated one-to-one, the sequel, which is equipped with more budget and action, also sheds light on the first days of the alien invasion. Newcomers are Djimon Hounsou ("Shazam!") and Cillian Murphy ("Red Lights") as the mysterious hermit.
