The good old homepage kit belongs to the Internet and is probably not much younger than the topic of the Internet itself: I remember that I already became aware of this in the middle and late 1990s.Providers like Strato were at the start very early and sold this "work easier" as part of their first domain offers. So if you wanted to buy "web space", you could usually book a function to bring your own website online without programming knowledge. To this day, homepage construction boXes are very popular. No wonder, you often get everything from a single source: domain, kit and space on the Internet to the upload. But do you even have a chance, for eXample on Google, if such an offer uses or is it better to look for your own solution independently of these homepage construction boXes?That is eXactly what I wanted to find out, in the following test result there are all facts...
Which homepage kit can it be?
Regarding basic functions, a homepage kit with its own domain or without nothing more than a content management system, albeit very rudimentary. For the beginner on the web, such a tool does not necessarily have to be bad, provided that the operation is easy and you don't have to roll books in order to get a simple website - that is also shown by my test result.
Years ago there was already a real pioneer in this area with Strato, and other providers have also committed themselves to the flag in recent years.Jimdo and WiX are to be mentioned here, among other things. All providers of homepage construction boXes have one thing in common: they want to enable users to quickly and easily catapult their own content into the WWW.
I have never really dealt with the "Homepage kit" tool because I always insisted on my own solutions from the start.Nevertheless, I keep noticing that ineXperienced users in particular descend to the principle of the building boXes and that is eXactly why I wanted to know more about it.So does a homepage kit really bring something or can you save this effort?
Which providers are the operation particularly easy for?Who has the most sensible basic functions and who mediates the most knowledge, for eXample by video? Can you use your own domains and how are videos integrated? And above all: How does a website that is realized with its own kit on Google?
For a meaningful test result, I took a closer look at the providers already mentioned above: Jimdo, WiX and Strato. What solutions do these providers offer, how easy is the operation, is there a domain or several domains, can you speak of a "tool" with these construction boXes and how much money do you have to take in your hand?
But very important for me personally: Which solutions are offered to cut a good figure on Google? After all, the greatest domains with ingenious content per se is not worth much if Google simply does not rely well and thus does not generate a traffic.
Modular provider with a long tradition
In my opinion, Jimdo is one of the most famous providers and looks back on a long tradition. If you are interested in this homepage kit, you can look forward to 120 templates that are available directly and can be used directly.
The operation at Jimdo is particularly easy for ineXperienced users: With a short change between the editor and the live view. The test result here is clear: elements can be quickly adapted, renewed or even discarded. There are plenty of elements available for individual adjustment options for Jimdo's homepage kit.
In addition to colors and writings at Jimdo, images, backgrounds and complete picture galleries can also be defined according to your own wishes.Operation is relatively easy here and does not presents anyone with great challenges.Jimdo also allows the use of a newsletter, a blog or contact form. All of these elements can be integrated quickly and easily at Jimdo.
If you are careful and want to operate a shop for such construction boXes, you can be happy: Jimdo offers both, individual areas can be provided with a password protection. In order to use the shop with all the features, you have to dig into your pocket a bit, for free there is only the basic functions at Jimdo.A test result in which it could still be improved.
For this, however, the Jimdo tool has an app for iPad and iPhone on offer, with which you can carry out the processing of your domain (or domains) practically anywhere.Jimdo also did homework when it comes to SEO.Only editing can be made in the free kit at a global level. In most paid Jimdo packages, however, in addition to suitable templates, there are also ways to set almost every SEO aspect for individual pages.
At least with regard to "onpage", the Jimdo tool offers all the prerequisites according to the test result in order to be successful on Google with its domains. So that this works, your own domains are always recommended. There is one here.DE-domain with 5 gigabytes of storage space from 5 euros per month.I personally missed a small video introduction directly on the start page at Jimdo.
HTML5 websites, fit for mobile and video
In contrast to Jimdo, WiX was originally a provider of flash sites.Over time, however, one seems to have understood that Flash alone is no longer able to win a flower pot. That is why this provider has been a relatively eXtensive homepage kit for some time now, which has already done the most homework in terms of SEO and Google.
Particularly pleasant: thanks to the HTML5 support, templates, of which there are several 100 different variants, are automatically suitable for mobile devices.Regardless of where you want to reach users with your own website, WIX is already providing - and this applies to video in the kit.
From the perspective of a Pro user, the test result does not surprise: the very eXtensive editor does not shy away, but ineXperienced users may be somewhat overwhelmed. Here you control with many instructions against that all features of the kit, in most cases also eXplain via video.Basic functions such as the selection of a template or a preview function for the test of each individual page are of course available.
Thanks to the eXtensive video tutorial, the operation will also be a little easier, basic functions such as blog, forum, chat, shop or picture galleries are on board in every version. If you want to eXpand the basic functions of the Pro-Aktiv kit, you have to buy in an Appshop.
SEO is unfortunately not easier here, but at least understandable according to my test result - the "SEO Wizzard and Monitoring Tool" ensures that. Many onpage factors can be adjusted precisely here, an additional and very eXtensive tutorial offers shooters and eXplains most of the important terms and procedures.
If you don't want to do without Google Analytics, you are also in good hands with the basic functions.Google's analysis software can be easily integrated. The free kit is limited, but still usable if you are not pro-user or have no high demands.Advertising and traffic limit can be used with 10.95 euros or.Switch off 15.95 euros per month and fundamentally: if you want to have more functions, you have to pay.No surprising test result.
Inventor of the kit?
X
Strato, as one of the primeval rocks of the website building boxes, recently gave its “homepage kitenkicken Pro” an update-and is therefore more current than the competition between Jimdo and Co..: Since April 2014, the tool based on the technology of CM4all has been available. This homepage kit from Strato as an inline editor can also be operated relatively easily by drag and drop, editing is done directly in the WysiwyG editor based on the selected template.
There are more than 450 of them, half of which can be used for mobile domains, for the other half there are workarounds. My test result shows that the Google web fonts will be supported in all Template from Strato. In any case, this is an advantage for the design of the templates.According to the test result, this is integrated and the operation thanks to drag and drop intuitively, but unfortunately you don't hear anything about HMTL4 compared to other providers. Allerdings hat man Strato an anderer Stelle nachgedacht: im Vergleich zu früher verzichtet man auf vorgefertigte TeXtbausteine, in jedes Template muss man also selbst eigene TeXte einbinden.
This protects against duplicate content and ensures that your own domain becomes as unique as possible. Komplette eigene TeXte sorgen auch in Sachen SEO für einen deutlichen Vorteil – was ja grundsätzlich bei Unique Content gilt, ob es sich nun um TeXt, Video oder ein anderes Element handelt. In addition, you get a lot of tips on the topics of content marketing at Strato - this is shown by the test result.
A lot has happened here compared to the past times. When using a homepage kit, people who do not yet have much experience with building their own websites are often at the start.
In terms of SEO, you will definitely put your way around at Strato in this respect as the most important element, namely the content, is intensely involved. For all other factors in its kit, Strato offers the usual basic functions that are also present according to my test result.Unfortunately, Strato has not (yet) improved in an important area: the design and optics of almost all strato templates still leave something to be desired.
Here it would really be time if a little more energy would soon be invested in these areas. The eye surfs with and high -quality websites always convince with a remarkable and functional design, not least with a remarkable and functional design. This is not always accessible with the website kit from Strato.
Conclusion
If you want to draw attention to yourself with really professional websites, you should invest some money and staff in your own solution, according to the test result.Homepage building boxes such as those of Jimdo, Wix or Strato can convince in many areas, but overall it is not enough for me.There is no basic function for every kit, and even if the operation is good overall, you don't have full control.I personally like the complete concentration on HTML5, as is the case with WIX, very much, at Jimdo I see the overall concept including the particularly intuitive operation at the front.
According to the test result, Strato offers good and extensive documentation, but has a clear need to catch up with the design. In addition to all of these factors, of course, the opportunity for me is the opportunity to be successful on Google. In my view, this is possible with none of the three website construction boxes.Even if Jimdo gets relatively close to this goal, there are no central aspects that I can control 100%with my own domain-without being dependent on a modular provider.
For this reason, I do not give a specific recommendation here, but rely on my test result: if I had to choose one of the three construction boxes, I would take Jimdo.Wix lands in second place, followed by Strato.Ultimately, however, as I said, I set my own domains with a suitable CMS, because then I enjoy the most freedom for individual design, also and especially in terms of Google - Jimdo and Co.Unfortunately not keep up.
